Each year the NIU Chapter of Sigma Xi hosts a Graduate Student Presentation competition. Students give a 15 minute talk based on work completed at NIU. Top

AAG - Student Paper Award, Biogeography Specialty Group Award Recipients

An award for the best presentation by a student at the annual meeting of the American Association of Geographers (AAG) has been presented by the BSG since 1987.  Beginning in 2001, separate awards were established for Ph.D. students and for Undergraduate/Masters students.  The criteria used to evaluate presentations include the scientific merit of the research, the soundness of the methods, analyses, conclusions, and the clarity and caliber of the presentation. Each student is judged by a panel of BSG faculty. Top

An award for the best presentation by a MA/MS student at the West Lakes Division annual meeting Top

American Society of Agronomy (ASA) Regional Soils Contest

Has been held at a different host institution each year since 1961. Soil contestants arrive at various soil pits and are expected to correctly identify, evaluate, classify, and describe four soil profiles. Three teams from each of 7 regions qualify for Nationals. Top

Burton W. Ray Scholarship Award in Soil Science

The Burton W. Ray Scholarship Award in Soil Science is given in his memory to a college student who is enrolled at an Illinois college or university and who has achieved the highest individual score in the regional collegiate soil judging contest for that year. Top

National Weather Association's Arthur C. Pike Meteorology Scholarship

The scholarship is named after Mr. Pike, who was a charter member of the National Weather Association, a research meteorologist for the National Hurricane Center, and an educator. The scholarship is awarded based on academic achievement/merit. Top
